Mark Tedeschi, QC, released his list, with learned argument, to mark the 175th anniversary of the setting up of the Crown Prosecutor's Office. The office is one of the oldest legal institutions in Australia, only six years younger than the Supreme Court of NSW.

The 94 crown prosecutors of NSW are specialist criminal law counsel, who represent the state in prosecutions of the most serious crimes that are conducted before juries in the Supreme and District courts, as well as appearing in appeals before the Court of Criminal Appeal and the High Court. They are independent counsel with only one client, the Director of Public Prosecutions.
